Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition Modena Yellow
The name Ferrari is synonymous with aesthetic design, powerful engines, constant technical innovation, and one of the most influential figures in the history of motorsport. With a boundless vision and an unrelenting passion for racing, Enzo Ferrari led his company to unmatched prestige, creating an everlasting legend. Montblanc has dedicated the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition to this man and his passion for the track.
Drawing inspiration from both the coat of arms of Enzo Ferrari’s hometown — Modena — and the iconic shade featured in the Scuderia’s logo, this edition pays tribute to Ferrari’s “second soul”: yellow. The cone is engraved with the dates of Enzo Ferrari’s birth and his first race victory, while the top of the cap features his signature along with the name of his father’s workshop, Officina Meccanica Alfredo Ferrari, a nod to his roots.
The pen is adorned with the Montblanc emblem in precious blue resin — another tribute to Modena’s crest — and features intricate metalwork evoking the grille of a vintage car. Enzo Ferrari’s first win at the Circuito del Savio also marked the beginning of what would become the legendary Ferrari logo. Among the spectators that day was the family of Italian WWI flying ace Francesco Baracca, who had served in the same unit as Enzo’s brother, Dino. Baracca’s mother, Countess Paolina Biancoli, suggested that Enzo adopt her son’s emblem — a rearing black horse taken from his aircraft — as a good luck charm for his cars. Associated with courage and strength, it was the ideal symbol for Enzo.
Nine years later, the Cavallino Rampante was used for the first time on a yellow background to decorate a car. It was 1932 at the 24 Hours of Spa, where Scuderia Ferrari secured both first and second place with cars proudly displaying the emblem. The cap of the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition is engraved with the Cavallino Rampante along with the Countess’s words: “Le porterà fortuna” (“It will bring you luck”).
The first car built by Ferrari, the 125 S with its twelve-cylinder engine, rolled out of the Maranello factory on March 12, 1947. Twelve engraved lines on the pen represent these twelve cylinders. Enzo Ferrari’s motto, “You cannot describe passion, you can only live it,” is engraved on the ruthenium-coated clip, completing this remarkable tribute.
