  The 1960s was a decade of experimentation, fun, freedom and energy. The buzzword for those days was living life at top speed: riding a motorcycle for long journeys, or riding in a sports car. Willy Breitling sensed this change of pace and decided to design an unconventional chronograph that would capture the verve of the period. And he called it Top Time. That spirit-filled tradition continues to this day with Breitling's collaboration with some of the most iconic brands in the motor world to create Top Time designs. Co-designed with Deus Ex Machina, a surf and motorcycle apparel brand, the Top Time Deus would have appealed to bikers, boarders and backpackers: those who sought the freedom to explore the world in their own way, at their own pace. It sports the Deus emblem and the adage “In benzin veritas” on the dial, as well as a racing-style perforated leather strap, tachymeter scale for speed measurement, and contrasting “squircle” (not quite square, not quite round) counters reminiscent of vintage dashboard tachometers. It also features a special lightning-shaped chronograph hand and, under the hood, an engine to brag about: the extraordinary Breitling manufacture caliber 01.
