From coral takeoffs, the first in history, to the birth of commercial air travel, Breitling's history is inseparable from that of flight. In the 1930s, Breitling's Huit Aviation Department became famous for the invention of precision cockpit watches. Twenty years later, Breitling presents another instrument for flight, this time to wear on the wrist: the Ref. 765 AVI. This pioneering pilot watch provided the technical basis for the current Classic AVI, a collection inspired by the vigorous spirit of the first famous airplanes. The Classic AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair pays homage to one of these laws. The Corsair, an aircraft carrier fighter during the Second World War, had to ensure take-offs and landings in difficult conditions, between aircraft carriers and remote landing strips. Speed and climbing capacity were essential: the aircraft proved to be well up to the task, becoming the first single-engine fighter to reach 640 km/h, at the same time offering exceptional climbing speed. The folded wing design, large propeller diameter and distinctive blue livery have made it an emblem of aviation history. As a true pilot's watch produced to withstand the cockpit expectations of the time, the Classic AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair features large, easy-to-read Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel. The knurled bezel on the 42mm case provides an optimal grip even for the hands of a glove-wearing rider. The stitched calfskin straps are a rich stitching on classic cockpit clothing, while the stainless steel bracelet offers an elegant alternative. Pilots, and beyond, will learn ease of reading, versatility in combination and sober style.
