Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43
Breitling's iconic pilot's chronograph: excellent traveling companion. In 1952, Willy Breitling developed a wrist chronograph equipped with a circular slide rule that would enable pilots to perform all necessary flight calculations. Two years later, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) unveiled his design as its official timepiece. The “navigation timer” or Navitimer had been born. AOPA was (and remains) the world's largest pilot's club, to which virtually all U.S. aviators belong. As was the case with the original pilot's watch in the glory days of civil aviation, the Navitimer was worn by airline pilots and aviation enthusiasts. It even went into space on the wrist of astronaut Scott Carpenter in 1962. But pilots were not the only ones with a soft spot for its irresistible aesthetic. Celebrities of the time, such as Miles Davis and Serge Gainsbourg, were genuine admirers of it, which shows that the Navitimer had style as well as functionality. Since its launch 70 years ago, Breitling's watch has been reinterpreted many times, but the new version of the Navitimer encapsulates the most classic features while sublimating them with contemporary taste. The flattened slide rule and domed crystal create the illusion of a sleeker profile, while alternating brushed and polished metal elements lend a lustrous yet understated finish. In particular, new hues in shades of blue, green and copper define the new dial. But if there's one update that's sure to take a step back in time, it's the return of the AOPA wings to their original position at 12 o'clock. For 70 years, Breitling's original pilot's watch has been loved in equal measure by aviators and trendsetters. Worn by astronauts in space and the biggest stars on Earth, it is Breitling's most iconic timepiece and one of the most recognizable watches of all time.
